Sustainability

Bardykes Farm Nursery School are passionate about being sustainable and are actively seeking to have zero waste, all the children that attend the nursery learn about the importance of recycling and caring for the environment. Below are some of the projects that are in place;

ECO Schools, this is a global programme across 67 countries, helping children to develop environmental skills & awareness

ECO Bricks, these are reusable building blocks created by packing clean, dry used plastic into a plastic bottle. Children that attend Bardykes are taught about these and actively encouraged to create Eco-Bricks with their families at home, once we have enough a new shelter will be built in the Secret Garden.

Pocket gardens, A Keep Scotland Beautiful initiative helping children and families to create and grow their own small gardens at home. The pocket gardens encourage families to grow edible plants, plants that attract wild life and reuse items that would have otherwise been thrown away.

Green Flag, Bardykes Farm Nursery Schools have applied to receive a prestigious Green Flag Award. The award celebrates amazing green spaces.

Rag Bag - Textile Recycling,
The 'Rag Bag' recycling scheme was introduced by our parents committee to help families when clearing out and contribute towards fundraising target. The scheme increases awareness about textile recycling and by increasing recycling rates we can help the environment by ensuring less material goes to landfill.
